Westtown School

Learning by doing: Westtown sports a student-centric approach. Inquiry-based learning encourages students to raise their own questions, devise hypotheses, and engage in creative problem solving, as well as critical thinking. They’re not supposed to simply learn answers by heart, quite the opposite in fact. This approach teaches them to think analytically and assume responsibility. Students in their final year work on their own projects that can last for several weeks. Projects range from social advocacy and scientific research to creating art.

A 600-acre space to study and live in: Westtown’s extensive campus is a living, breathing classroom. It contains a huge lake (beach included), a boathouse, an arboretum with over 600 different plants, a 21-element ropes course, an organic farm, numerous hiking trails and a solar panel project. Students grow their own vegetables, take care of the school’s chickens, and learn how to use solar energy. This teaches them to assume responsibility for the environment.

Popular: Westtown’s art programme attracts countless visitors every year. The Spring and Fall Dance Concerts are particularly popular, as students get to perform their own choreographed dances. These events also bolster the sense of community among the students.
